Howard J. Levine owned an accounting firm in the Los Angeles area, concentrating in bookkeeping, accounting, tax return preparation, tax planning and consulting for small businesses, partnerships and corporations, as well as tax exempt (nonprofit) organizations and private foundations. In order to serve as a full-time Professor of Accounting, in August 2016 it was transitioned to the Lopez Accounting Group.

With many years as a college professor and in private practice, plus experience with National accounting firms, Howard created a diverse client base and a wealth of experience.

Howard provided expert accounting and tax services to a unique group of clients nationwide. These clients range from small retail businesses, physicians and a variety of service businesses to nonprofit organizations and private foundations with budgets from under $100,000 to assets over $100 million!

Howard’s background is as impressive as his client base. He received his B.S. degree from San Diego State University, after being nominated to just about every academic honorary society. After passing all four parts of the C.P.A. exam on his first try, Howard worked for a National accounting firm, auditing and advising small to multinational businesses. In 1979 Howard formed his own accounting practice, starting with just two clients (one of whom was his father) out of his apartment. This practice grew to hundreds of clients throughout the United States.

Howard is actively involved in the community. He has served as both a member and Southern California coordinator of the Technical Review Panel of the California Board of Accountancy. He has also written questions used on the C.P.A. examination. His volunteer activities also include serving as Treasurer and President, as well as on the Board, of numerous organizations, plus coaching boys’ baseball and girls’ softball teams.  Howard recently served as a Trustee of the California Society of CPAs Group Insurance Trust and concluded a three-year term as a member of the Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Advocacy Panel.

Since 1980 Howard taught courses, seminars and delivered lectures at various colleges and universities, plus numerous community-based groups. He continues to present a variety of public and in-house workshops, and is a full time Professor of Accounting at Los Angeles Valley College. Howard is a diplomat and life member of the American Board of Forensic Accountants.

As Howard’s clients will attest, the personal service Howard strives for is never forgotten, since both Howard and his staff know that communicating with, and helping clients, is the only reason they are in business. Unlike many accountants and attorneys, Howard never billed his clients for phone calls, ensuring that clients are never afraid to ask a question.
